Kirsty is a senior advisor within the Mineral and Energy Resources Division of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. Kirsty advises the Department on all areas of resources law, policy and legislation, and is currently advising on the Leading Practice Mining Acts Review, which is a comprehensive review and amendment of the South Australia Mining Legislation. Prior to her role within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Kirsty worked as an energy and resources lawyer specialising in petroleum law, mining law and corporate law. During this time Kirsty worked for resource industry participants in respect to farm-in/out and exploration joint venture agreements, mineral rights agreements, share and asset acquisitions and disposals, capital raisings (share placements, share purchase plans, rights issues and convertible note issues) and project financing. Kirsty’s petroleum experience includes advising companies on land access arrangements, drilling and well development contracts, and a wide range of service contracts and compliance issues. Kirsty was seconded to the in-house legal team of South Australian resources company, Arrium Ltd, where she assisted in a large corporate restructure.

Kirsty has a Master Degree in Commercial and Resources Law from the University of Western Australia majoring in petroleum law. Kirsty is a board member of the South Australian branch of the Australia Mining and Petroleum Law Association, and is a committee member and secretary of the South Australian Young Petroleum Professionals.  Kirsty has published an academic article in a pre-eminent Australian mining and petroleum law journal, and has presented on various areas of mining law and petroleum law, including at the national Australian Mining and Petroleum Law conference. Kirsty teaches mining law to undergraduate law students at Flinders University alongside Dr Andrew Cannon.
